School is almost here! We are quite excited for the start of the 2011-2012 school year at the MPTPA. August 30th marks the beginning of our second year and it promises to be a great one. This past summer has been fantastic for reflection, reconnecting with family and friends, and relaxation. We are, however, ready for our students to return.
We have several new initiatives in place for this school year. Our middle school students will begin to take theme-specific classes as part of their specials rotation and will have at least one quarter of content specific to the health care and education fields. Our ninth graders will begin to participate in an ambitious curriculum developed by Cambridge University. This curriculum is designed to ensure that our students leave high school 'college ready.' Finally, our tenth grade students are piloting a child development course that will provide them with a rich and robust experience surrounding early childhood learning. It is easy to see why we are so excited for the start of the school year!
We are continuing our push for all students to read twenty five books during the course of the school year. Several studies have demonstrated the power of reading and its impact on academic performance. Please encourage your child to read nightly for a minimum of thirty minutes. This goal will figure prominently in our work with students this year.
Please join us at our parent open house on September 15th, 2011. We look forward to our working together!
